Luiz Antonio Godoy is a Brazilian director, writer and sound creative. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he quickly moved to the country’s capital before moving to the US.

As an artist, his work is deeply shaped by his experiences living in completely different social and cultural contexts between countries.

During his youth, films were his only window to the world, making him grow to understand they are a powerful tool to connect with people, statement he lives by today.

Drawn to philosophy, his films explore existential questions through intimate narratives, minimalist settings, and contemplative pacing.

Statement

I grew up with a fascination for meaning, first through physics and, eventually, philosophy.

In that context, theater appealed to me as an art form that has real humans, and emotions, sharing a real space with an audience where nothing can be hidden under editing or color - an art form that could explain the world.

What made filmmaking different to me was the realization that, different from theater, it can transform the perception of time and space. With a world that feels busier and louder every day, my filmmaking practice is rooted in the hope of slowing time and,often, with minimalistic settings and soundscapes, create a sense of contemplation and reflection that can be strong enough to search for meaning.
